Will iPhone 3GS support iOS 5?

Apple is scheduled to launch the latest version of its mobile operating system iOS 5 in next to no time. The speculation around its working on the iPhone 3GS is still quite popular. Apple\'s CEO, Steve Jobs has confirmed that it will indeed work at the WWDC while delivering his keynote.

The new iOS will support the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPad 2. Moreover, it will support the third and fourth generation iPod touch. While that may seem to be good news for many, the question now is: how well will it run on older hardware?

It extended support to the ageing iPhone 3G when Apple released iOS 4. Nonetheless, it was later found that after installing the new iOS, the iPhone 3G would become so horribly slow that we can not use it properly or was almost impossible to use.

Apple did try some damage control by releasing an update that promised to speed things up, but it wasn\'t too helpful. Eventually, Apple decided to drop support for the old iPhone, starting with iOS 4.3.
